On this Remembrance Day I have two songs I want to present to you to honour our soldiers. The first is "A Pittance of Time"** by a man named Terry Kelly, and from what I understand is based on a true story. It's the serious encounter of the singer, with the one man who refuses to take a moment of silence to honour our fallen.
Song of the Survivor is the story of an infantry soldier during the final mission of a war. It could be nearly any battle, nearly anywhere. He is laid low in a forest, it is night. Everyone's intended positions are relayed from their commander via radio. Our soldier and his comrades know the enemy is very nearby, they can't see or hear them yet, but they can feel them. There is a moment of silence, nothing but nature around them, as they think about what may lie ahead. Despite the foreshadowed fight, our soldier's hope (piccolo) is held alive. Intensity rises as they move into position and prepare for zero hour when the enemy arrives. Memories of loved ones seared onto their minds, driving them to finish this fight for freedom. Embolden by love for God, country and all those they hold dear, they dig into their trenches bravely, ready to do battle with the enemy. The grueling wait begins. Fear tries to creep in, which they must shed off and replace with focus. Fighter planes can be heard over head, and quickly swoop in, unnaturally close to the ground, attempting to pick off infantry men with the planes' guns. Several ground skirmishes ensue, our soldier ducks into a half bombed out shack. A few bullets wiz by, dangerously close past our soldier's head, and smash a window. After a brief lull, one last plane passes over, and our soldier, who has victoriously survived, runs, not out of cowardice, but toward a freedom he has helped to secure for us. - Christopher Green
**Pittance means "a small amount". The singer is urging the one unpatriotic man (and us) to even just a small amount (pittance) of time to honour our veterans.
