Christopher wipes the sweat from his brow.
After trying over and over to get Ubuntu Studio to install, only to have it fail every time it gets to the point of installing the GRUB (menu to switch between Windows and Ubuntu Studio), I'm done messing with this. Now, I'm going to try downloading and installing the regular distribution of Ubuntu (not studio) and then upgrading whatever is needed to make it more like Ubuntu Studio, once it's installed.
Whew, Linux has not been a great experience so far. But it's something I want to learn, since rumour is, Windows 10 will go the way of Adobe Creative Cloud and force people to buy paid subscriptions for Windows 10 sometime in the future. According to the website How to Geek, this won't be the case https://www.howtogeek.com/220957/no-windows-10-won%e2%80%99t-require-a-subscription-heres-how-microsoft-plans-on-making-money-instead/
How to Geek claims that Windows will instead make money off of Apps, initial license purchases, and in-app purchases (like buying a movie or a song in an iTunes-like software, or minutes in Skype). I imagine Windows will try this for a bit, but I'm not convinced they won't eventually turn into a subscription OS. If that day ever comes, I'll most likely be jumping to some sort of Linux OS, so I want to start learning it now. Besides that, I'm uncomfortable with the amount of info Microsoft mines from it's Windows 10 users (enough to make Google, or Facebook jealous).
I plan to stay with Windows 8.1 until it's completely unusable for me. I.E. if I have to upgrade Cubase or Pro Tools for some reason, and can't do it on W8.1, which won't likely be an issue for a long time. I ran Cubase LE4 for a few years, then upgraded to Cubase 6 Artist and used it for probably about 6 years, and never upgraded until Cubase Pro 8.5, and all of these have run on the exact same computer (still running) with the same OS (Windows 7 on that one actually). So in all likelihood, I'm safe for a good ten years before I might have to think about an OS again.
So what else have I got going on? Well, today I hope to insert more music into episode 6 of Shadows & Daylight. In some episodes, to both save time and create a sense of unity from episode to episode, we re-use portions of the score from previous episodes and then sprinkle in new stuff as needed. So currently I'm in the process of putting in pieces from previous episodes before we add anything new. I may work on some writing or other editing today too if there's time, but my only goal today is the music in episode 6.
Well 'anywho', I hope you're enjoying my recent more "just whatever" posts I've been posting. Have a great day!
