Recently our church shared a video of an interview with Jim Cavaziel, about his experience portaying the role of Jesus. And this interview turns into a sermon, inwhat seems to be a great surprise to the interviewer. I think it's worth a watch, and I hope it touches your heart, as it did mine.
I would like to make a few contextualizing statements first though. Mr. Cavaziel seems to be Catholic. While any major docturnal differences don't play into the message of the video, I think it merits that warning, so you aren't confused. There are a few off hand remarks about the “virgin” Mary (whom the Catholics believe is still a virgin, and not simply a virgin when Jesus was born) and references to “the our Father” (the Catholic way of saying “the Lord's prayer”). Other than that, there is one rather unclear reference Mr. Cavaziel makes to being “sure” that “everyone” at that meeting will go to Heaven (he didn't really give a clear docturnal reason why he believed that). Aside from that, the main core message had a lot of sound doctrine. It just goes to show God can use anyone, even those in a group with faulty doctrine. So while we should never “throw the baby out with the bath water”, we shouldn't swallow everything just because parts of it are good. So all that to say, there's a lot of good stuff in there, but keep your discernment hat on, and be sure that you ask God what of it was for you, and what of it was not.
I hope you enjoy the video!
PS: Have you see The Passion of The Christ or another dramatic telling of Jesus mission to come and die and rise again for us? What did you think, did it reach you n a deeper way than you had felt before?
