Kids Can Press is a Canadian children's book publishing company. You see, when I was younger a common Christmas and birthday present from my grandparents (my Mom's parents) was children's books, I think they wanted to instill a love for reading in us.
A lot of these books were from Kids Can Press. My young mind didn't yet associate "Can" with "Canada" nor "press" with a printing press. So I thought it meant that kids were allowed to push the pages. You know... kids can press? Yeah. So I would proceed to try to "push" (press my fingers) on every page before it was turned to the next one. Mom wasn't the first one to notice this odd behaviour, but she was the first one to ask me why I did it. After explaining the book makers had given kids like me permission to press the pages, she gave me the kind of understanding and grace moms are known for, and explained the "Kids CanADIAN Printing Press" concept to me. Poor Mom. I imagine my Mom in retrospect giving herslef a V8** as she had to help us navigate through our niave little thoughts into something more reminiscint of logic. Thank God for Moms.
Do you have any funny stories of things you misunderstood as a child?
