All the boys in the band want a valentine from a Barlow Girl
No more dating. I’m just waiting. ‘Cause God is writing my love story.
We wanted to write a song that was a personal testimony of our experience with dating – or I should say, not dating.
Boys are bad that’s certainly not true
‘Cause God’s preparing one for you
If you get tired waiting till he comes
God’s arms are the perfect place to run
This has truly been an interesting year for the three of us. We have spent most of the last three years writing songs and searching for inspiration. As a part of that season, we’ve also been seeking direction and a new plan for what God has for our lives. In the midst of this journey our songwriting times turned less and less into songwriting and more and more into God speaking to us about His new plans for us. And the outcome is that God is gently leading us in a new direction. The three of us really feel, and all agree, that the Lord is leading us to make a huge change in our lives and we want you to be the first to know about it.
After much prayer and counsel we have decided that we are retiring the band BarlowGirl. We don't know what God has in store for us...He hasn’t revealed that yet. But in all this we know -- He is guiding us to move forward in our destinies and He is faithful no matter what! We are so excited for this new season because we serve an amazing God.
Their style isn't for everyone (they were one of the only modern all-girl Christian rock groups) but they have some very heart felt songs that I think are worth sharing. So here are a few that I think anyone should be able to enjoy.
This first song "I Need You to Love Me" was the cry of my heart to God this morning, and it was a pleasure slipping the CD Another Journal Entry (possibly their best album) into the car stereo this morning and singing along (which is what God used to inspire this post). I hope it blesses you as it does me! Its a song that reminds us of our need for God's love, and how He loves us instead of our flaws.
This song, "Surrender" has come up so often in discussions I have with people about our callings, and our passions. God has brought this song to my heart time and again, reminding me that I need to love Him more than my dreams and desires, and to ultimately, surrender them to Him. (Please note that in the linked lyric video, their is some incorrect lyrics, it should read"My dreams are me" not "My dreams for me".
While this is not the highest quality version of the next song "I Believe in Love" on YouTube, it has a very really honest explanation and message behind the song delivered by Alyssa Barlow herself. So I turn it over to Alyssa now, who explains this much better than I can:
After you've heard Alyssa's talk, here's a clearer version of the song with lyrics included:
I hope these songs touched you! And I pray I the Barlow sisters will be blessed in all their future endeavors! God bless them!
How about you? Do you have any songs, artists or bands who God has used to reach you right when you needed it? Share them with me and the readers in the comments below! :)
